Gift Ideas To Make Them Smile

A Motivational Card

This beautiful when things get hard card by Lucy and Lolly is a handmade, plantable bean card.

By planting the attached bean in soil, in two weeks your plant will surface with the Positive Vibes message on its leaves.

I had never seen anything like this before, but now I’m obsessed with the contribution of these cards to mental health, wellbeing and the environment. We stan a small, eco-friendly business!

Planting and caring for your beanstalk is also a great distraction from any negative thoughts and feelings.

Quote Picture

A framed picture of an inspiring quote is the perfect reminder for your loved ones, to keep going at times where mental illness weighs heavily on them.

Memory Book

A book filled with happy memories, through the use of photographs, cards, tickets, receipts and small tokens is a mental health gift guaranteed to promote happiness in your loved ones.

Flower Subscription Service

Now who doesn’t love receiving a bouquet of flowers? Using a subscription service allows you to surprise your loved ones with beautiful blooms every week, fortnight or month.

Gift Ideas To Calm Their Anxious Thoughts

Mental health gift ideas

Weighted Blanket

A weighted blanket is just as it sounds, a blanket which is filled with plastic pellets to place pressure on the body.

The heaviness of these blankets promotes a calming effect, because it can feel like you’re being held. This feeling of safety can be extremely comforting and soothing for people that experience stress and anxiety.

Floatation Therapy

Floatation therapy is simply when you immerse your body into a pod filled with water and Epsom salts, which allows you to float effortlessly.

Inside of the tank you are deprived of the senses, which helps you to switch off your mind and enter a state of deep relaxation. The salt water is also kept exactly at body temperature, making you feel completely weightless.

Floating can be beneficial for many reasons, including reducing anxiety, relieving chronic pain, improving sleep and reducing stress levels.

Rescue Remedy

Thank goodness for Rescue Remedy! Placing a few drops of Rescue Remedy Comfort & Reassure underneath my tongue, when I am feeling anxious or stressed, really helps me to cope in overwhelming situations.

Travelling on public transport, attending appointments and public speaking are examples of situations which I am able to manage, because of this product.

If your loved ones suffer from anxiety, droppers from the Rescue Remedy range are a handbag essential!

Meditation App Subscription

Meditation app subscriptions (like Headspace and Calm) are extremely thoughtful gifts. These apps give your loved ones the tools which they need to look after their mental health, through inspiring stories, meditations and sleepcasts.

Headspace are currently offering a free year of Headspace Plus for anybody living in America and facing unemployment, to help you get back on your feet.

Puzzle Book

Sitting down with a puzzle book is a coping mechanism which really helps me to stay grounded. By focusing on each question, it becomes harder for negative thoughts to surface.

My favourites include the trilogy of Mindfulness Puzzle Books by Dr. Gareth Moore.

Positive Affirmation Cards

Positive affirmations are short statements or phrases which are repeated, to inspire the person speaking them.

It is important to treat yourself with love and kindness, especially on bad mental health days. By reading positive affirmations aloud, your loved ones can maintain a positive mindset which dismisses unhelpful thoughts readily.

Self Care Box

Building a self care box is gifting a safe place for somebody, which includes everything they could ever need to complete regular self-care.

Reading

Getting lost in a book can be so relaxing. One minute you settle down to start reading and before you know it hours have flown by.

Some of my favourite self-help books are:

Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig

The Anxiety Solution by Chloe Brotheridge

The Life-Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F**k by Sarah Knight

Adult Colouring Book

Concentrating on colouring is a perfect way to unwind before going to bed, or to create a feeling of calm in times of need. It focuses your attention on the present moment, which makes adult colouring books a useful tool to have in your box of coping mechanisms.

My favourite is the Enchanted Forest Colouring Book by Johanna Basford, which you can pair with these affordable colouring pencils.

Fantastic ideas! My friend and I sent each other a few cards right at the beginning of lockdown and it’s such a lovely way to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Adult colouring books are also my saviour when it comes to needing to unwind! Thank you for sharing 🙂 x

I absolutely love this. Such a thoughtful post!

As someone who struggles with anxiety and loves sitting on the sofa under a fluffy blanket, I love the idea of buying a weighted blanket as an alternative.

Self care boxes are always so lovely too. My mum has made me some in the past, and they’ve always been so thoughtful, with my favourite snacks skin care products etc within.

    Thanks for sharing x

Love the sound of a weighted blanket – I currently just use our electric blanket without plugging it in and that provides that weighted feeling 🙂 x
